The SoFi Stadium in Southern California was previously announced as a host venue for the next FIFA World Cup in the US, Mexico and Canada but owner Stan Kroenke could withdraw the arena
Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke's dispute with FIFA has taken another twist as he has insisted his SoFi Stadium venue must host games of 'significant heft' at the next World Cup.
Seventy-six-year-old billionaire Kroenke's major concern ahead of the tournament is that the venue will lose money during games played at SoFi. According to the LA Times, his contention is that staging group stage matches and early knockout games simply would not make economic sense. The Gunners owner has his sights set on staging the final at the next tournament, which will be held in the US, Mexico and Canada. The sports tycoon, who controls five professional sport franchises, has remained coy on the standoff with FIFA previously claiming: "We’re heavily involved in it, and they love our stadium."
