ASDA in hot water with shoppers over £1 gesture for those who can't afford food - but others want Tesco and M&S to follow

Last week ASDA issued a £1 message to millions of shoppers struggling to afford to eat. The supermarket giant impressed people so much, the likes of Tesco, Sainsbury's, M&S and Morrisons, are all being urged to do the same.

Manchester Evening News shared the news on Facebook, where it quickly divided shoppers. While some praised the initiative, others slammed the retailer for only considering OAPs at a time when millions of young people are suffering financially at the same rate as, if not more than, OAPs.

Rose Adams slammed: "60? A lot of 60 year olds I know are at the peak of their career.. How about also including the young homeless, single parents on benefits and others who cannot work for health reasons." Irene Towers praised: "That is really good wonder if any other super markets with cafes will do the same." Maureen Higginson agreed: "That's brilliant Asda well done to u it will help so many."
