EXCLUSIVE: Regan, who stood against Humza Yousaf to become SNP leader, said independence campaigners needed to clear a 'higher bar' to start negotiations with Westminster.
A former SNP leadership candidate has warned Humza Yousaf the UK Government will not take seriously his plan to begin independence negotiations if his party wins most seats in Scotland at the next general election.
She told the Record a mandate would be secured if the alliance achieved more than 50 per cent of the total votes cast in Scotland. If backed by members, it would mean the SNP would be "empowered to begin immediate negotiations with the UK Government to give democratic effect to Scotland becoming an independent country" if it won most seats.She added: "At general elections, people often have other things on their minds, particularly when Scotland is suffering with the economy and the cost of living crisis."
