Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed he was “amazed” to see the club’s proposed changes to Profitability and Sustainability Rules voted down., the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs –insisted it is “very sad” to see top-flight clubs “voting politically”.
Aston Villa proposed that the allowable loss limit under PSR should be increased to £135million for the 2024-25 season, but Premier League clubs voted the plans down last week.“I didn’t think it was going to be rejected, to be honest. “I was amazed that the clubs didn’t go for it, and I’m now worried they’re voting politically to block other clubs – rather than thinking about the best thing for everybody.“It would’ve made sense, and I don’t understand why it was voted down. “All I can think of is political voting, and that’s very sad. I wasn’t in the room, but I thought this change made common sense.”
