OAKLAND, Calif. — Alex Bregman and Yuli Gurriel were two primary catalysts of the Astros’ league-leading offense last season. Not so this year. Although both have ascended at the plate in recent weeks, their overall offensive metrics are still not the staggering numbers Houston fans are used to seeing.
“The whole team is happy for them because you know how much work and effort and scrutiny they've been going through,” Astros manager Dusty Baker said.Baker has afforded extra grace to Gurriel and Bregman, two mainstays in Houston’s lineup, through slow starts. They paid him back for his patience in Oakland.
