Cristian Javier, Bryan Abreu, Rafael Montero and Ryan Pressly — two international signings and two trade acquisitions — struck out 14 and surrendered three baserunners as the Astros threw the second no-hitter in World Series history
Houston Astros starting pitcher Cristian Javier celebrates with relief pitcher Ryan Pressly after the final out of Game 4 to complete the first combine no-hitter in the World Series at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, in Philadelphia.PHILADELPHIA — They came here for a coronation and control of a World Series few thought they’d ever reach. They donned red and white, downed beers, dented ear drums and derided the team an entire country loves to loathe.
Four hours later, in the 118th installment of the Fall Classic, four Astros teamed to throw the second no-hitter in World Series history and first since Don Larsen’s perfect game in 1956. Philadelphia put two runners in scoring position, both by stolen base against Javier and catcher Christian Vázquez. Bryce Harper swiped second after working a leadoff walk in the second. Brandon Marsh repeated the action in the third after a one-out free pass from Javier, the emotionless righthander who etched his name into World Series lore. He and Larsen are the only two pitchers to ever throw at least six innings of no-hit ball during a World Series game.
