Verlander also continues to be off compared to his regular season-self. The expected AL Cy Young winner must be better than this if the Astros are going to win their second World Series. —The slider has given Justin Verlander problems all season. He didn’t have it at all in the first inning today, seemed to find it a tad in the second, and then hung one to Harrison Bader, who banged it off the left field facade.

It took Verlander 22 pitches to end New York in the first but he eventually recorded a zero.
Left-field defense will be worth keeping an eye on tonight for the Yankees. With Matt Carpenter getting the DH nod in Game 1, Giancarlo Stanton will be playing left for only the fifth time this season. New York manager Aaron Boone said he'd planted the idea with Stanton during the ALDS and that the slugger was eager to give it a go tonight. Boone said Minute Maid Park's cozy left-field dimensions made him comfortable with the decision.
