Yordan Alvarez was not in the Astros' starting lineup Wednesday after injuring his left...
Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez did not start Wednesday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks after injuring his left ankle during Tuesday’s 10-2 win.
Manager Dusty Baker said Alvarez is “sore” and made it seem like he would not be available off the bench during Wednesday’s game. Thursday’s scheduled off day affords Alvarez two consecutive rest days before the Tampa Bay Rays arrive for a three-game series starting Friday. Alvarez rolled his left ankle Tuesday while running out of the batter’s box during a first-inning single. He remained in the game for his next plate appearance — a third-inning strikeout — before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the fifth.
