More than 40 tents have been pitched by asylum seekers along the Grand Canal in Dublin, less than 400 metres from the International Protection Office on Mount Street.

The new encampment of tents has been erected between Mount Street bridge and Huband Bridge. On Wednesday, a large number of tents were removed from around the IPO, with accommodation offered to international protection applicants who were sleeping rough in the area.

The protest, which began just before 9pm last night, continued this morning, with 43 tents remained camped on the Trinity grounds. Academics for Palestine said that in joining similar encampments in other countries,"these students are showing a degree of moral courage and leadership that has been distinctly lacking among our university administrations".
