Democrats on both the east and west coasts are attacking Gov. Greg Abbott this week, blasting the Texas Republican for his views on abortion, gun rights and immigration.and rejecting calls from the left to restrict gun access. Meanwhile, Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser and New York City Mayor Eric Adams denounced the governor for busing migrants to the nation’s capital.
The national attention is not unfamiliar for Abbott, who has at times been floated as a possible presidential contender. And as Abbott runs for re-election against former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke this fall, the public scuffles with out-of-state Democratic officials are raising his profile, political experts say.

Democrats have been sparring for weeks with Republicans who oppose gun safety measures despite a string of mass shootings across the United States, including the May 24 massacre at a Uvalde elementary school that left 21 dead and 17 injured.
