Attingham Park is waiting to see what the damage is after the Tern and Severn burst their banks.

BBC News, West MidlandsAttingham Park in Shropshire said the nearby River Tern burst its banks on Friday, flooding the deer park.

That event, plus rainfall from upstream, caused the River Severn to rise, creating a second large lake on the estate. General manager Mark Agnew said levels had to recede before any damage to the causeway, bridges, paths and fences were known. Andy Jasper, Director of Gardens and Parklands at the National Trust, said a large number of its properties had been affected with the clear up operation likely to take weeks. The Severn and Tern meet on the Attingham estate and the National Trust said it has been working on a major project with Shropshire Council and the Environment Agency to help it retain more water on its lands during future floods.

"Attingham already holds a huge amount of water across the river catchments, helping to slow-the-flow and reduce flood risk further along the watercourse," it said.
