- ROME, OCT 6 - Italian retail sales fell by 0.4% in value terms and by 0.5% in volume in August with respect to the previous month, Istat said on Friday.
Year-on-year, retail sales instead rose by 2.4% in value terms and fell by 4.1% in volume with respect to August 2022 due to the effect of rising inflation, which has meant that consumers are spending more to get less, added the statistics agency. Sales of food items grew by 5.6% in value but fell by 4.1% in volume year-on-year, while sales of non-food items fell by 0.3% in value and by 4.2% in volume over the same period, Istat said.
