The aunt of murdered Hunter McGleenon says his family deserved the chance to 'stand in front of the person who destroyed our lives to tell him exactly what he had done'

The aunt of murdered Hunter McGleenon says the family deserved the chance to "stand in front of the person who destroyed our lives to tell him exactly what he had done".

"I tend to believe that the murder of a baby or a child is completely different to the murder of an adult," she said."Babies can't defend themselves, they can't cry out for help, they can't tell someone that they're being hurt, they're far more vulnerable and far more of their life is taken. The 36-year-old said she wanted to see the minimum tariff in these most serious cases extended to reflect the severity of the crime committed.

"A person can get out and go on to live their life again, so I think it's important to just put people off hurting children." "Victims don't have any voice in the courtroom and they don't have any choice in any part of the process." "I have a petition going to try to make that happen because we know that we are not the only victims of serious crime in this country," she said.

Coleen said that she hoped that by campaigning for more strict tariffs that she could help any other families that had to face what her and the McGleenon family have been through. The Department of Justice said that the law states that a minimum tariff must be specified for any person convicted of murder and the Director of Public Prosecutions can refer sentences considered "unduly lenient" to the Court of Appeal.
