Australian Idol singer Kate Cook has been found dead after wandering off into bushland near her home.
The country music star, who was a semi-finalist on the show in 2009, was last seen on Sunday night wandering off into the bush by her home in Lowood, Queensland. It's said that police are not treating her death as suspicious. She gave up her day job, cutting meat in an abattoir, to pursue her passion for music at 26.She melted hearts by dedicating her moving performance to her mother, who had taken her own life in 2000.
"When I lost my mum I went mustering up north, and that's when I wrote the song - I usually keep my emotions all inside, but writing songs helps me get it out in the open."Country star Casey Barnes said: "Absolutely devastated to hear of your passing today Cookie. This is the Kate Cook I remembered and loved.
"We were only just talking about trying to organise a ten year Idol reunion later this year... you were a breath of fresh air and such a beautiful person inside and out.* Samaritans operates a 24-hour service available every day of the year.
