Authorities identify twin brothers who died when their house caught fire

The cause of the blaze that raced through their home on Carteret Avenue in the city’s West Ward remains under investigation, the city said in a statement by Fire Director Kenneth M. Douglas. “Investigators were unable to determine if the residence contained any smoke detectors, and have not yet released any determination of factors contributing to the ignition of the fire,” the statement said.

City firefighters responded to the blaze, reported just before 7 p.m. on April 2, and were unable to make any rescues due to the volume of fire. They later found the brothers dead underneath debris on the third floor of the home. Portions of the interior had collapsed, the city said. They also found a pet cat dead on the second floor.
