Five of Marius McGovern's patients have instructed a negligence claim over his alleged conduct
A well-known dentist whose working practice was restricted after he was alleged to have caused "pain and discomfort" to several patients has been suspended after providing a service without insurance.
The GDC determined "it was satisfied that the failings were prolonged over a total period of 23 months, repeated on more than one occasion and were serious. They went to the very heart of a dentist’s duty to ensure patient safety and to put patients’ interests first. Further, the public are entitled to expect their dentist to be honest.
"I completely understand the need for dentists to have indemnity insurance and the risks to patients when dentists practice without it. I also feel awful for endangering the livelihoods of the people who work with me each day." Five of the patients have since instructed the Dental Law Partnership to investigate a negligence claim against Mr McGovern. However, an interim order committee review hearing dated August 22 said the GDC had since obtained the records of all seven patients and referred them to an external review.
