AZ Alkmaar head coach Maarten Martens has revealed why Troy Parrott was benched for the Roma game on Thursday night.
Martens was hopeful that the 22-year-old might bring a fresh spark to his attack later in the game - and that’s exactly what happened. “With Mexx we also have a very good striker. So now Troy could come in from the side with fresh energy. We expect that from players who come in from the bench. He was honoured for his three goals in four games during that period and was the first AZ player in over a year to win the monthly prize.
“It's remarkably impressive that we've booked a victory, that the group has managed to do that, and that we've already reached the next round with one game to go.
