Tempers flare at football practice, especially on hot, humid afternoons when the excitement of preseason camp has worn off and the anticipation of the season opener is still out on the horizon. What happened during San Diego State’s practice Tuesday afternoon crossed a line, though.
The incident occurred during a portion of practice that was not open to the media, but related by a practice observer. After practice, SDSU head coach Brady Hoke acknowledge the incident, saying “I thought it was childish on part, but it happens.”Uluave left the field on a cart, accompanied by offensive lineman Xavier Leonard.White played in 13 games, mostly on special teams, last season. He came into camp as the backup to senior Patrick McMorris at the “Aztec” safety position.
Asked what sparked the incident, Hoke said, “We have different tempos we play with and we got out of that box a little bit. It’s guys defending each other, and I like that, but we’ve got to be highly intelligent about it.” “We had a nice talk with the whole team,” Hoke said. “I told them exactly what I thought. We’re not doing that.
