Lancashire Constabulary were called by paramedics to a property on Garsdale Road, Ribbleton, at 12.18pm on Wednesday . Emergency crews rushed the tot to the Royal Preston Hospital for treatment, but he was pronounced dead later the same day.
Police said the death is being treated as "unexplained" and an investigation is ongoing. The name of the boy has not been released.A force spokesperson said: "We were called by the North West Ambulance Service to an address on Garsdale Road, Ribbleton, Preston, at 12.18pm on Wednesday, August 3, following reports that a five-month-old baby boy had been found unresponsive. The baby was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital where sadly he died later in the day.
"Our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time. The death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing."
