Two men have appeared in court charged with assaulting gardaí in Ballyfermot.

35-year-old Steven Byrne of Ballyfermot Avenue, Ballyfermot and 54-year-old Anthony Grogan of Cherry Orchard Park, Ballyfermot were each charged with two counts of assaulting a garda and one count of violent disorder.The court heard neither man made any reply when charged at Ballyfermot Garda Station last night.
Two gardaí were treated in hospital for their injuries after the alleged incident on Ballyfermot Road shortly after midnight on Sunday night. During bail applications, it was heard in both cases that there is CCTV evidence of the alleged incident. Judge Paula Murphy said the matters before the court were of a serious nature, but that both accused were entitled to the presumption of innocence and to bail.
