A state of emergency has been declared in the US city of Baltimore after the massive Francis Scott Key Bridge was struck by a ship

At around 1:30am, emergency services began to receive calls that a ship headed out of the city had struck one of the supports of theSeveral vehicles were on the bridge at the time of its collapse, including one the size of a tractor-trailer truck, with around 20 people thought to be in the water below.Photos from vantage points near the bridge entrance show the jagged remnants of its steel frame sticking out from the water as the on-ramp ends where the span had initially begun.
