The Climate Action Amendment Bill 2019 is aimed at delivering a radical reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in every sector and ensuring Ireland meets its future climate objectives.The bill includes a ban on the registration of new fossil fuel cars from 2030 and stopping the granting of NCTs on all fossil fuel cars from 2045.
Under the bill, the Oireachtas will have a central role in the setting of the carbon budget and overseeing progress to delivery. Oisin Coghlan, Coordinator of the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition, said: "We need to see the actual text before we can judge whether the draft Climate Bill measures up, but today's announcement … is a welcome step.
