Baylor Scott & White’s Jim Hinton gave Texans a chance for better health | CherylHall_DMN
Before joining Baylor in January 2017, Hinton spent 21 years as CEO of Presbyterian Health Services in Albuquerque, the largest health care system in New Mexico.Less than two years after taking over as CEO, Hinton orchestrated a mega-merger with Houston’s Memorial Hermann Health System, that would have created a Texas-size hospital-system juggernaut had it not fallen through by mutual agreement.
Baylor Scott & White’s annual revenue has grown 25% to $10 billion, while its operating profits roughly doubled since 2016, the year before his arrival. The statewide health system currently provides nearly 4 million patient encounters a year. As a not-for-profit organization, money that Baylor does make from operations is plowed back into its mission of helping the well-being of everyone in the community.Jennifer Sampson, CEO of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, said Hinton has stayed true to the mission. She wholeheartedly endorsed my nomination of Hinton, who is vice chair of United Way.
