Funeral and death notices for special Hyndburn people who have died

Announcing the death of a family member has been a time-honoured tradition for family and loved ones. We have gathered the messages posted this week in one place.

Derrick spent all his working life as an electrician with Hyndburn Council. He was a well known church organist, and was the organist at St. Pete’s Church for over 60 years, he also played at many of the other churches in the area. Requiem mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 1 at 12.45pm, followed by a committal at Accrington Crematorium.

Shirley loved to bake and always had cake available for visitors. She baked Christmas cake for family members each year which lasted the rest of the year. Known as Andrew, he was born in Blackburn and spent the majority of his life living in Oswaldtwistle. He was the loving partner of Julie Foster, father of Ruby Yates, Charlie Yates, Matthew Yates and Lucy Gregory, grandfather of Alfie Gregory and Oliver Gregory and a brother and uncle to many.

Born and raised in Accrington, she attended St Anne’s School and Paddock House before working as a radiographer at Blackburn Royal Infirmary, Queen’s Park Hospital and Accrington Victoria Hospital.
