PennDot has finalized two-way Second Street project to slow traffic and decrease fatalities.
Harrisburg’s Second Street two-way traffic from a drone’s eye viewFor many years, Harrisburg’s Second Street has been known as a three lane, one-way road, but last Thursday PennDOT opened the new and improved two-way traffic street to the public.
After months of construction, Second Street was opened on both north and southbound lanes for vehicles around noon Oct. 13. The two-mile stretch of road has added lanes that travel in both directions between Forester and Division streets. The city has also added roundabouts at Verbeke, Reily and Kelker streets in a hope to decrease the speed of traffic along the road.
This project was apart of Harrisburg’s Vision Zero project, which is an initiative to help erase all traffic and pedestrian fatalities by 2030.
