Laura Stephenson from Preston died months after giving birth to twins
The dad of a new mum who died when her cancer symptoms were dismissed as postnatal problems is determined to keep her memory alive.
Through his voluntary work with the North West Ambulance Service, Laura's dad Mike Barnes often finds himself transporting patients to and from the Christie Hospital in Manchester, where Laura underwent treatment before her death at the age of just 36.Mike said: "The treatment that Laura received at The Christie was excellent and she worked so hard to stay positive and encourage others to do the same.
Mike, who lives in Goosnargh, took part in the London Marathon in 2022 and will once more don his running shoes, next month, in a bid to raise more money for the Christie Hospital and raise awareness about bowel cancer. He said: "They have all been so important in my running journey and have supported me in many ways during the last two years. Whenever they can, they come to my runs and on some occasions run with me.
Mike had been volunteering in Malawi at the time his daughter was diagnosed. He returned home straight away to be with Laura and says she never let her diagnosis get in her way.
