A new report into child poverty in the UK has revealed nearly 4m children are unable to meet their minimum needs. 'The standard rates of social security are fundamentally not fit for purpose.'

The 3.9 million youngsters – one in four – are among 13.4 million people who can’t meet their minimum needs, said the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.uplift worsened difficulties. Some 7.2 million people have foregone basics such as meals, showers and heat, as life expectancy is at its lowest since 2011 in England’s most deprived areas.
