The comedian’s last stand-up tour was in 2013 and Bernard is now heading back on the road.
Former RTE 2FM star Bernard O’Shea has opened up about “being less conscious” of himself as he returns to stand-up comedy after almost 10 years. The comedian’s last stand-up tour was in 2013 and Bernard is now heading back on the road with his own tour, Desperate House Husband, from September.
“So that was it for a good while. It took a while to get back into it but here I am now facing into the Paddy Power festival and my own tour in September. I didn’t have much time to panic because I had three kids that wanted various dairy products consistently delivered to them… while my wife was basically holding down the fort, working.”
Bernard also took up work locally away from the limelight, but said: “I got the gra for 9 to 5 a little bit but inevitably the comedy mermaids called me ashore.” And the Co Laois native said he’s less conscious about himself nowadays. “I found doing radio easier and harder – harder because you had to do it every day for three hours but easier in that there isn’t an audience looking at you so if it does well, great and if it doesn’t then so what. Whereas if your material doesn’t do well, then there are a couple of hundred people staring at you.
