Videos showed O’Rourke approaching the stage where Abbott, Sen.and more politicians were convening after Tuesday’s tragedy. O’Rourke, who will challenge Abbott in the Texas gubernatorial election, reportedly interrupted the proceedings after Abbott blamed the country’s mental health crisis on the shooting.

“You are doing nothing,” O’Rourke says after he approached the stage. “You said this was not predictable; this is totally predictable.” Several Texas officials immediately berated O’Rourke for interrupting the press conference, and several members of the audience shouted out at him. “He needs to get his ass out of here. This isn’t the place to talk this over. Sir, you’re out of line. Please leave this auditorium. I can’t believe you’re a sick son of a bitch that would come to a deal like this to make a political issue,” one person on stage yelled at O’Rourke.
