After spending a decade as Big 12 commissioner, Bob Bowlsby will step down from that position this year as the conference begins a national search process for his successor, the Big 12 announced Tuesday afternoon.
After serving as athletic director at Northern Iowa, Iowa and Stanford, Bowlsby took the reins of a conference in flux back in May 2012. Colorado and Nebraska had jumped to the Pac-12 and Big Ten, respectively, the previous year. And in July 2012, Missouri and Texas A&M jumped to the SEC as West Virginia and TCU joined the new 10-member Big 12.
“The Big 12 will soon bring in our four new members and negotiate a new grant of rights and media rights agreements,” Bowlsby said. “I truly believe the Big 12 and our member institutions are in a strong position now and as we look into the future.
