Billionaire Earl from one of Britain's richest families has died

A BILLIONAIRE from one of Britain's richest families and who was once the chairman of Chelsea FC has died aged 86.The former member of the House of Lords passed away "peacefully" on June 11 at his Chelsea homeThe former member of the House of Lords passed away "peacefully" on June 11 at his Chelsea home.

He was the 8th Earl Cadogan and headed up Cadagon Estates, which owns nearly 100acres of Kensington and Chelsea. His family described him as having a "strong sense of duty" and a "sincere warmth which engendered a great loyalty and affection". In part of a lengthy statement they said: "Lord Cadogan led a full life. He found enjoyment and amusement readily and was wonderful company, gregarious and voluble. He described himself as a ‘countryman’ and whilst his family business has been very successful under his stewardship, he felt most comfortable in the role of philanthropist."

Conservative Party Chairman and Chelsea and Fulham MP Greg Hands added: "He was ever-present in Chelsea, and cared deeply about this very special part of London, the community, the history, the buildings and the environment. And provided great advice to me as the MP."After finishing school, he joined the Army before becoming second lieutenant in in the First Battalion of the Coldstream Guards and served in Germany.
