Irish billionaire wealth increased by €13 billion in 2024, three times faster than the year before, according to a new Oxfam report.
This means that billionaires saw their wealth increase by around €35.6 million every day for the past year.
“Trump’s team is set to be the richest ever to run the US government, worth more than an unimaginable $450 billion. "Meanwhile, global poverty remains at 1990 levels. We must first acknowledge the disparity and set about reversing the trend.”Mr Clarken also said that Ireland should lead the charge to equalise the global distribution of wealth.
"This report shows us the reality of modern-day colonialism in action with countries in the global North extracting billions from the global South and holding on to a vastly disproportionate political power," Mr Clarken said.
