Update: Damar Hamlin was released from the the University of Cincinnati Medical Center on Monday and flew to a Buffalo hospital to continue his recovery, his physicians said Monday.
Hamlin’s breathing tube was removed Friday and he was able to speak, including joining the Bills on a video call during a team meeting.
“Normal recovery from something like this is going to be measured in weeks to months and he’s been a little bit ahead of that at each stage,” Dr. Timothy Pritts of UC Medical Center said.Watching the world come together around me on Sunday was truly an amazing feeling.Bigger than football! 🫶🏾UC Medical Center physicians Dr. William Knight IV and Pritts spoke to reporters on a video call Monday to announce Hamlin’s medical transport.
Hamlin is walking normally, the doctors said. He is focusing on regaining his strength, which is part of his recovery process, according to Knight. The physicians said it is too early to determine the long-term effects of Hamlin’s collapse on his health and if he can return to playing football. Pritts said he anticipated Hamlin would go through an “ongoing series of tests and evaluations” to determine what caused the incident.
