Now, I think I might be Team Jebb here. True, it might be easier just to go full kneejerk and start bellowing “Woke sickos want to ban birthdays!” in the faces of everyone you see, like some sort of GB News presenter gone feral, but I would suggest that the only people who actually think this are the people who aren’t routinely exposed to the tyranny of office cake.

Because, if you work in a busy office, then it’s always someone’s sodding birthday. And that means there’s always a sodding cake on the go. . And it’s not like you can just turn it down, can you, because that just unleashes a tidal wave of etiquette complications.
