And the Tuesday morning sun was breaking across Joe Biden’s ancestral homeland in Ireland by the time he’d finished what was a rapturous goodbye in Chicago. The opening evening of the Democratic convention marked a clear generational shift.
“I’ve got five months left in my presidency. I’ve got a lot to do. I intend to get it done. It’s been the honour of a lifetime to serve as your president. I love the job. But I love my country more. I love my country more. And we need to preserve our democracy.”Who’s afraid of X owner Elon Musk? But although the occasion belonged to Joe Biden, the spirit of the night belonged to the Democratic women speakers who took to the stage.
And then there was Hillary. It is hard not to believe that some essential part of Hillary Clinton was vanquished by the traumatic experience of losing a presidential election that had seemed like her manifest destiny in 2016.
