The RTE presenter gutted the 120-year-old house and did substantial retrofitting to modernise the home
This year Blathnaid Treacy and her husband Charlie Mooney completely renovated their Stoneybattery home after purchasing it from their landlord following years of renting the property.
Speaking about their huge renovation, Blathnaid said they availed of government grants to vastly improve their BER rating. "The most important thing really is to make the house warm and to make sure you've got proper windows and doors; the walls are insulated; under the floors are insulated because it just makes your life so much nicer when there aren't draughts coming through".
"Sometimes in older houses you can be a little bit nervous about putting flooring down on top of the original floorboards because you want to keep original features but at the same time, you need to make sure that the house works for you.
