The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has postponed a planned trip to China following the discovery of an alleged 'spy balloon' over the US
US SECRETARY OF State Antony Blinken has postponed a planned high-stakes weekend diplomatic trip to China as the Biden administration weighs a broader response to the discovery of a high-altitude Chinese balloon flying over sensitive sites in the western United States, a US official said.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said China is a “responsible country” which has “always strictly abided by international laws” and “has no intention to violate the territory and airspace of any sovereign countries”. One of the places the balloon was spotted was Montana, home to one of the nation’s three nuclear missile silo fields at Malmstrom Air Force Base.
The senior US defence official said fighter jets, including F-22s, were put on standby to shoot down the balloon if ordered to by the White House.
