The appeal was then launched earlier this year on behalf of internet service provider Three UK and granted on May 25, overturning the council decision. In its statement of case, the company highlighted the importance placed on improving telecommunications infrastructure in the Hertsmere Core Strategy and the National Policy Framework.

The Planning Inspectorate agreed with Three and said: “Overall, the proposal would not have a harmful effect on the character and appearance of the area.” It described the pole as “relatively slender” and said the equipment cabinets would be “modest” in scale and design.
