Redbuds, Texas mountain laurels and cemetery iris are blooming now in San Antonio gardens
The most noticeable blooms in my neighborhood are on Texas mountain laurel and redbud, but the cemetery iris, bluebonnets, larkspur and rain lilies are also blooming.
The redbuds are also blooming. There are three main selections of redbud: Texas, Mexican, and Eastern varieties of Cercis canadensis. The Texas selection has shiny green leaves. The Mexican variety also has shiny green leaves, but they are wavey. It is the most drought tolerant of the varieties. Aeration and top dressing of the lawn addresses soil compaction and makes the soil reservoir more effective in drainage, water retention, gas exchange and nutrient transport. Do it yourself or hire a landscape contractor to complete the work.
