Demonstrators have taken to major thoroughfares in Memphis, Tennessee, and Manhattan, New York, Friday evening following the release of bodycam footage showing 29-year-old Tyre Nichols being savagely beaten by officers as they attempted to arrest him on Jan. 7.showing Memphis police officers brutally beating Tyre Nichols, demonstrators in Tennessee, New York and Washington descended upon major thoroughfares to express their outrage.

The video is filled with violent moments showing the officers, who are also Black, chasing and pummeling Nichols and leaving him on the pavement propped against a squad car as they fist-bumped and celebrated their actions. The Memphis Police Department released footage that shows officers beating Tyre Nichols after a traffic stop. This footage, from a nearby static camera, gives perspective on the length of time and the nature of the officers' actions.
