Bohemians Beat Dundalk 2-1 at Oriel Park to Go Level on Points at Top
Bohemians, Dundalk, Oriel Park

Bohemians secured a 2-1 win over Dundalk at Oriel Park, moving level on points with Shamrock Rovers and St Patrick's Athletic in the SSE Airtricity League title race.

Bohemians defeated Dundalk 2-1 at Oriel Park on Friday, October 2, 2026, with goals in each half securing three points that lift them level on points with Shamrock Rovers and St Patrick's Athletic at the top of the SSE Airtricity League. The visitors played the final minutes with 10 men after Cian Byrne was sent off, but held on despite a late Dundalk fightback.

First Half: Whelan Penalty Gives Bohs Lead

Dundalk started brightly, creating several half-chances in the opening 10 minutes. Harvey Warren's header from an Aodh Dervin free kick was comfortably caught by Bohemians keeper Paul Walters, while Daryl Horgan's low cross flashed across goal. Leo Gaxha then saw a close-range header blocked following a long throw.

Bohemians grew into the game, and Patrick Hickey headed a Dawson Devoy free kick over on 11 minutes. Conor Parsons caused problems for the Dundalk defence, weaving through challenges before his shot was smothered by keeper Enda Minogue. On 23 minutes, both sides had chances: Trevor Clarke shot straight at Walters, while Minogue saved from Colm Whelan at the other end.

Minutes later, Bohemians were awarded a penalty when Dawson Devoy went down under a challenge from Mayowa Animasahun. Colm Whelan side-footed the spot-kick home for his 13th league goal of the season. Dundalk were unhappy that referee McGraith only showed a yellow card to Conor Parsons for a challenge on Harvey Warren, and appeals for a handball against Patrick Hickey were waved away.

Bohs nearly doubled their lead on 40 minutes when former Lilywhite Senan Mullen headed a Ross Tierney cross over the bar. Dundalk came close to an equaliser on 41 minutes, but Warren was smothered by Walters after a short corner between Horgan and Clarke.

Second Half: Tierney Header Seals Win

The second half saw few clear chances early on, with a blocked Bobby Burns strike the best for Dundalk. But on 67 minutes, Bohemians scored their second from a set piece: Jordan Flores' corner was headed across goal by Patrick Hickey, and Ross Tierney headed in via the crossbar.

Bohemians seemed in control, but three minutes from time, Dundalk were awarded a penalty when Norman Garbutt was fouled inside the box by Niall Morahan. Daryl Horgan converted to set up a grandstand finish.

Dundalk pushed for an equaliser, and Bohemians were reduced to 10 men when Cian Byrne fouled Harry Groome as last man. The resulting free kick saw Bobby Burns' strike clip the crossbar. Dundalk were furious that only three minutes of added time were awarded, but Bohemians held on for the win.

Bohemians Protest Media Requests

Following the victory, Bohemians released a statement confirming they will not carry out any more media requests for the remainder of the season. The club is protesting the league's decision to bring forward Shamrock Rovers' tie with Drogheda United next Thursday by 24 hours.
