By July 2020, Preston made the decision to release McManus, Dolan, Lyons, Corcoran, O’Reilly and the rest of their academy teammates. “It was probably around four months after I got released by Preston that I signed for Shels,” he says. “Things were up in the air. It was a long time to be thinking about things.“Who knows what might have happened . It could have been different. I know some lads still playing in the Championship that I was with at Preston.
Around the same time that he signed for Shels, he moved to address that side of his life by joining the FAI-ETB course in Cabra, where he earned a Level 5 qualification in Sports Recreation and Management. “I knew myself that I was coming home with nothing, no education, and that I needed to find a way back to education.
