I like things that make me see the world differently. More than anything I read, my favorite author as an adult is Haruki Murakami.from just before Master of My Make-Believe where you mentioned you’d read most of his books.. I remember having that thousand-page book on my tour bus! What I love so much about Murakami is he creates these worlds that are multidimensional, and there’s magic in the way he views life.
, that’s the divorce record—just to know what’s happening behind the lyrics of the songs, and his struggles. My dad was the hugest Marvin Gaye fan. And when Marvin Gaye was murdered, my dad seriously didn’t speak for a week, he was so depressed. So when I finally read the book I learned a lot. I love finding out all the details about people’s lives. I remember reading a Nina Simone autobiography [] and didn’t like it at all because it wasn’t honest.
