Boris Johnson has made a pointed attempt to show he has moved on from the partygate row and his fall from grace by penning his first Daily Mail column on a weight loss drug RichardVaughan1 reports

The former prime minister has signed up to what is believed to be a hefty six-figure salary to write a weekly column for the paper, with his first subject on the surprise topic of shedding the pounds to try and look like a “chiselled whippet”.

In his piece, Mr Johnson said he embarked on a prescription regime of Ozempic, the weight loss drug which is now being looked at by the Government as a means of tackling the obesity crisis, which he claimed worked “for a few weeks”. “One minute I would be fine, and the next minute I would be talking to Ralph on the big white phone; and I am afraid that I decided that I couldn’t go on.”

Mr Johnson said: “After 40 years of moral failure, 40 years of weakness in the face of temptation — of akrasia — I was going to acquire a new and invincible chemical willpower.”
