The point is that teams spend the first two months of the season evaluating what they have and what they need. They spend the next two months trying to find ways to get better to make the playoffs, win the division, win the league or maybe even win a world championship. Or, in some cases, they concede the season and spend the next two months trying to make trades to improve their organization for future years when they’ll be better positioned to contend.
