Bowel screening helped save over 6,000 Irish people from developing cancer

Bowel screening has helped save over 6,000 Irish people from developing cancer, the Irish Cancer Society has said.

“All you have to do is place a tiny sample of poo on a test stick and return it by free post. This sample is then tested to look for signs of pre-cancerous changes that could develop into cancer.“Hundreds of others have had their cancer detected at an early stage when it was much easier to treat, with no need for chemotherapy and many lives have been saved as a result.

He said: “Because of a family history, I go for regular check-ups so I was lucky in that my cancer was diagnosed early. I am living proof that early detection is vital. “Thankfully I am doing well now and feeling good. Taking control of your health is the best decision you will ever make.
