A 15-year-old autistic boy has been awarded €130,000 in settlement of his action against the Health Service Executive over his treatment by South Kerry Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
Four cases were before the High Court for approval of determinations and settlements under the State compensation scheme set up last year after controversy over the care provided by the body was revealed.
A report by a consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist earlier this year, said the boy was inappropriately treated with an antipsychotic drug and another drug for one and a half years. In another case a 15-year-old boy was awarded €40,000 as a result of the care he received while a teenage girl received a settlement of €80,000.
