Boy, 6, who died after falling into stream in Ballina, Co Mayo named locally
The six-year-old boy who tragically died when he fell into a stream close to the River Moy in Ballina, Co. Mayo, on Sunday, has been named locally as Louis Chan.Louis, a pupil at a local primary school, lived with his family at Rehinsfort on the Foxford Road, Ballina.A search operation was mounted after the boy’s parents reported him missing to gardai.
Supt Doherty paid tribute to all the volunteers who took part in the rescue operation and the professionals who helped out at the scene, rendering medical assistance. Highlighting the sense of numbness in Ballina following the tragedy, Mark Duffy, a Ballina-based member of Mayo County Council, said this morning that “the community is devastated”,
He added: “We are all with the family in spirit despite not being able to express our sympathy directly to them in person due to the coronavirus pandemic”. Councillor Duffy – referring to the tragic death of a young Ballina man on a social outing in Westport some weeks ago – described it as “a difficult month for the town”.
