Carlisle is one of the most beloved singers of the 80s and 90s. The LA-born performer began her career in 1978 fronting seminal all-female new wave band The Go-Go’s before launching a solo career in 1985, and has a rich vibrato that added grit to polished pop-rock and made her one of the defining vocalists of her era.
“As far as the English-language path [is concerned], I thought I was done,” she says. But why? “You know, I’ve had some great pop songs written by the best songwriters in the world. But at my age, those songs go to a younger artist or somebody who’s still charting, so I thought the chances of that ever happening again were nil.”
