helped reset the safety market earlier this offseason, but Hooker was never going to fall in that category.
Hooker’s extension is similar to the three-year, $31.5 million contract the Kansas City Chiefs signedto earlier this offseason. Hooker and Reid recorded nearly identical numbers last season. Reid totaled one less tackle , one less pass breakup , and one more interception . Hooker is also notably younger than Reid is. Elsewhere, the Arizona Cardinals signed safetyto a three-year, $36 million extension last week.
A three-year extension also favors Hooker’s long-term financial outlook. Unless another extension is signed prior to the expiration of the deal, Hooker will enter the final year of the extension at 27 years old. One of the youngest players in his draft class, it sets Hooker up nicely to sign a second lucrative NFL contract.
The No. 116 overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, Hooker went from core special teamer and sub-package defender to a full-time starter at strong safety in 2021. He started 12 games last season, missing five with a groin injury, and recorded 62 tackles, one interception, four pass breakups, and a forced fumble. Hooker recorded a team-high four interceptions in 2020 despite being limited to three-safety looks while sharing snaps with Kenny Vaccaro. Hooker allowed a passer rating of just 64.
The Titans have a secondary that’s bursting with young talent. The 24-year-old Hooker remains a part of that.
